What are Dental Veneers?
Designed to improve your smile, dental veneers, also known as dental lumineers, are thin coverings placed over the visible front part of the tooth. They are made from composite resin or porcelain and because they look just like your natural teeth, no one will notice that you have them. Dental veneers and typically used to treat such dental issues as:
- Stained teeth
- Worn or chipped teeth
- Gap teeth, even between the upper front teeth
- Crooked or misshapen teeth
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are custom-made to fit your tooth and come with many benefits, including:
- Natural looking surface
- Resistant to staining
Porcelain Veneer Procedure
To start with, Dr. Pinky Penalosa will prepare your tooth for the veneer by removing a small amount of enamel from the sides and front of the tooth. This way, the veneer doesn't look bigger than the rest of your teeth. Next, Dr. Pinky will make a mold of the tooth along with choosing the best "color" to match the rest of your teeth. This is then sent to a lab that makes the veneer(s). As this can take a few days, you have the opportunity to wear temporary veneers. Once the veneers are sent back to our office, we will fit and shape it to your tooth. Adjustments may be needed during future appointments.
Benefits of Composite Resin Veneers
This type of veneer is made from a composite filling that is bonded to the tooth and is the same color as the rest of your teeth. There are many benefits to composite resin veneers including:
- Less expensive than porcelain veneers
- Easy to fix if damaged
- Can typically be fitted in just one visit
Composite Resin Veneer Procedure
To begin with, Dr. Pinky Penalosa will prepare and reshape the existing tooth before bonding it with the composite material. A light is then used to harden the material so it bonds to the tooth. Next, we will smooth and polish the veneer until it looks just like your natural tooth would.
